SUMMARY:Time Capsule Reveal
DESCRIPTION:In commemoration of America’s 250th and the City of Carmel’s 50th anniversaries\, the Carmel Clay History Museum commissioned a local woodworker to construct a time capsule\, the design of which was inspired by artifacts from our collection as well as architectural features of the museum building. The time capsule’s contents will comprise wooden plaques upon which we have engraved letters written by community leaders and long-time residents to future residents of Carmel. The time capsule will be displayed in the museum until 2076\, when it will be opened and the contents displayed in celebration of the country’s 300th and the city’s 100th anniversaries. \nWe invite you to join us on June 13 at noon for a dedication of the time capsule. This will be the public’s only opportunity to read the letters before they are enclosed for the next fifty years. We will also celebrate the opening of two new exhibits for the America’s 250th and the City of Carmel’s 50th anniversaries. If you are unable to attend the ceremony at noon\, the letters will be on display until the museum closes at 6 p.m. Mayor Finkam to be a guest speaker. \nIn addition to the plaques\, the time capsule will also have letters written by children of the community. Letter blanks will be on sale at the front desk for $5. \nRegister here! \nFunding for this project was provided by Hamilton County Tourism.

SUMMARY:Legends Retold: Goddard & Ingles
DESCRIPTION:Come hear these amazing ladies’ stories and how they relate to the founding of America. \nMary Katharine Goddard was a pioneering printer\, publisher\, and postmaster whose courage and determination helped shape the voice of the American Revolution. Best known for printing the first official copy of the Declaration of Independence to include the names of the signers in 1777\, Goddard played a vital role in spreading revolutionary ideas across the colonies. At a time when women were rarely recognized in public leadership\, she managed successful publishing operations\, kept citizens informed during wartime\, and became one of the earliest female postmasters in America. Her legacy represents freedom of the press\, patriotism\, and the powerful influence of women in the founding of the United States. \nMary Draper Ingles became an enduring symbol of resilience and survival on the American frontier. Captured during a 1755 raid in the French and Indian War\, Ingles escaped captivity and traveled hundreds of miles through wilderness to return home to Virginia. Her extraordinary journey demonstrated remarkable endurance\, courage\, and determination in the face of extreme hardship. As one of America’s most legendary frontier women\, her story reflects the challenges faced by early settlers and the pioneering spirit that helped shape the nation’s westward expansion and frontier identity. \nRegister here! \n
