July 26: Celebrating Tanabata – The Japanese Star Festival

July 26 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join us for a celebration of Tanabata, the Japanese Star Festival, inspired by a centuries-old legend of two star-crossed lovers who meet just once a year. Traditionally celebrated from July 7 to August 7, Tanabata invites participants to write their wishes on colorful paper strips and hang them on festive displays. At our museum, wishes will be displayed in our windows as part of this meaningful tradition.

  • When: Kick-off on Saturday, July 26, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • What: Tanabata display with themed books, snacks, an origami craft, and wish-making strips
  • Who: Hosted by the Carmel History Teen Council
  • Where: Carmel Clay History Museum
  • Why: Part of our Multicultural Holiday Celebrations Series, honoring cultural traditions from around the world—including upcoming celebrations for Dia De Los Muertos and Hanukkah

Can’t attend the kickoff? The display will remain up through August 2. Stop by during museum hours to enjoy the exhibit—and don’t forget to add your wish to the Tanabata display!
