I Grew Up in Carmel: Meet Bart Burrell August 20th!
From our I Grew Up in Carmel series: Meet Bart Burrell on August 20! 🏀📚
Carmel community, we have a very special homecoming event you won’t want to miss.
On Thursday, August 20 at 2:00 PM, join us here at the museum to welcome back hometown legend Bart Burrell! Many lifelong residents remember Bart as a standout leader on Carmel High School’s 1977 State Championship basketball team before he went on to become an all-time great wide receiver for Purdue University.
But Bart’s most incredible victory didn’t happen on a sports field.
Come hear Bart share his jaw-dropping, inspiring story chronicled in his book, Bart’s Heart. After facing a terminal rare diagnosis at age 40, Bart defied all odds through a life-saving stem cell transplant—only to face an incredibly rare, combined heart and liver transplant fourteen years later.
Bart will be speaking about the mental discipline, faith, and community support that saw him through the ultimate fight for survival, followed by a Q&A and book signing.
🗓 When: Thursday, August 20 at 2:00 PM
📍 Where: Carmel Clay History Museum (211 1st St. SW)
🎟 Admission: Free/open to the public but advance registration is requested.
Come say hello to a true local legend and leave inspired. Books will be available for purchase at the event. See you there!
